I was reading about Shanghai. It is a foreign place yet I gobbled up the words and pages like I was starving. Like the many other books Chiaming lent to me, I gobbled them up because they are about the Far East. I don't discriminate among China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or even Japan. Anything about them draws my attention as if living on this side of the Pacific I constantly turn a longing face toward the other.

How funny it is to think I was doing the same thing while growing up there, gobbling up every bit of the American pop culture and looking forward to one day being in America. I am in America, raising a child in America, bought a house in America, worked in America, educated in America. Yet I am now paying so much attention to where I came from, the place that I hardly gave a damn growing up there.

I've been putting out Paradox for about four years now. What get me going are the contradictory emotions that I felt ever so often. I need to ask myself from time to time what am I doing here. The quests not the answers are what Paradox is about. I thank you for sharing this journey and I thank Chiaming especially for constantly encouraging me. But it's time for the curtain call. This will be the last issue of Paradox. The website will not be gone. It will be re-organized. It's time to move on.

Sincerely,

C. Wu
